Acceleration
Imagine your child getting light-years ahead in math. Your child calmly aces every school math test and standardized test without cramming. While peers struggle with homework, your child flawlessly sails through assignments. When others stress about SAT and ACT math, your child gets perfect scores on both.
Before peers start algebra, your child masters calculus. In high school, your child explores advanced math programs for elite high-schoolers, like PROMYS, PRIMES, and IMO, paving the way for admission into Ivies.
The Numeracy’s individualized, accelerated group classes can help your child get there.
Permanence
As students learn new concepts, we also continually reinforce fundamentals. This prevents students from short-term memorizing and then forgetting concepts as they go forward.
Real understanding is permanent. The Numeracy ensures that students build permanent mastery by continually testing and reinforcing prior concepts.
Admissions
Math acceleration helps students get into honors classes, magnet schools, private schools, and elite colleges. Getting far ahead can also help students compete in Math Olympiads and get into programs like PROMYS and PRIMES. Graduates of PRIMES get into Harvard and MIT at staggeringly high rates, often as high as 70%.
Precision
The Numeracy helps students stop making careless mistakes or misreading instructions. When students make careless errors, they redo the problem until it’s 100% right. This creates the incentive and opportunity to work carefully.
We also help students organize their work clearly and read instructions accurately. For example, problems done in disorganized and haphazard ways must be redone. Many of our problems include intentionally tricky instructions to help students learn to pay close attention to instructions.
Individualization
The Numeracy’s group classes use several types of individualization. First, every student starts the program at his or her exact level, determined by precise diagnostics. Then, the student works independently of all other students, working at his or her best pace. No student falls behind or waits for others.
Additionally, each subtopic begins with a mini-diagnostic to determine the student’s starting level within that subtopic. Finally, we have “Responsive Training.” Whenever we detect a gap in a student’s skill or understanding, that student works on material to address that specific gap.
Antifragility
Many students learn math in a fragile way: they memorize specific sequences of steps for each problem type. If a problem is slightly different from what they expect, they can’t do it.
The Numeracy uses antifragile learning, in which students are routinely given unfamiliar challenge problems to figure out. The process of figuring out unfamiliar problems builds resilient, rugged math intelligence that grows stronger with each new challenge.
Our students are ready for pop quizzes, challenge problems on tests, and unusual standardized test questions. In fact, our students are so thoroughly prepared that they don’t need to cram for tests at school.
Book Your Free Consultation
Parents and students should both attend the consultation. Although students rarely ask questions during the consultation, they hear the answers to the important questions parents ask.
The consultation takes place over Zoom. Please use a laptop or desktop computer, rather than a phone or iPad, to attend the consultation.
